What Is Type III 550 Paracord?
The military designation "Type III" specifies the construction standard: a woven nylon outer sheath over 7 inner nylon strands, with a minimum breaking strength of 550 pounds. This is the specification for parachute suspension lines — the cord that connects the canopy to the harness and must hold a person's full body weight plus deceleration forces on deployment.
The "550" is a minimum strength rating, not an average. Every spool of Type III 550 paracord is rated to hold 550 lbs before failure. UV-resistant. Does not stretch appreciably under normal load. Retains color and integrity under sustained outdoor exposure.

Why Solid Steel Core vs Hollow Tube
The core gives the handle its shape and its feel under grip. A hollow tube core compresses slightly under sustained grip pressure — over time, with repeated use, it develops a flat spot or permanent deformation at the grip zone. A solid steel rod holds its circular cross-section permanently. It also gives the handle a weighted, solid feel that hollow cores don't produce — you can feel the difference immediately.

Machine-wrapped paracord handles are wrapped with consistent mechanical tension.
